Daily Happiness Series - Question 17

Question 17: What makes you feel great about yourself?

My Answer: There are a few things that make me feel great about myself: a nice pair of boots, a fresh manicure, perfectly-skinny jeans, and a good hair day, to name a few. Also, this nice window seat I have right now -- where I have a great people-watching view -- makes me feel pretty great about life, currently.

But let's dig a little deeper.

Are you familiar with the 5 Love Languages? If not, I'll break the concept down really quickly here, for you. There is a book -- actually now there are several books on the topic -- but in the original book, each of the five love languages is broken down, in hopes that the reader may discover how differently each one of us perceives love. The idea is that once we learn our own love languages and our loved ones' love languages, we'll love better. Simple, right? I suppose so.

The five love languages are these: Words of Affirmation, Acts of Service, Receiving Gifts, Quality Time, and Physical Touch.

I've taken the quiz a few different times to determine my own love language, and Words of Affirmation is always the clear winner. This doesn't necessarily mean that I'm trying to impress anyone, or that I need people to be constantly complimenting me on everything from my appearance down to my taste in literature, but it does mean that I need to hear a good word now and then. I need to hear an occasional encouraging word about my writing, about my artwork, about a choice I made... about anything, in general, and I need to hear "I love you" and "I appreciate you," because it makes me feel great about myself and it makes me feel loved

On the flip side of that too, since Words of Affirmation are what make me feel loved, they're the main way I express love. And what you're seeing here, these words, this blog -- this is my way of telling you, my dear reader, that I care about you. I want to make you laugh,  to make you think, to make you love Jesus a little harder, and to make you feel comfortable and accepted just as you are. That's what this space is about.

YOUR TURN! Do you know your love language? What is it? What makes you feel great about yourself? Tell me in the comments! ↴
