I'm stepping out of the boat. Since beginning my Sweet Moments series, God has been pressing an idea on my heart that says I am not the only one who is forgetting to actually enjoy my life. In reality, He had been pressing that idea on my heart long before my Sweet Moments series, I just didn't know what I was supposed to do about it. Now I've been able to use the Sweet Moments series as a launch-pad for the idea that follows.
Taking small, sweet moments for granted is way too easy for me to do. Maybe for you, too. The littlest things can fill me with such great joy -- a great joy that comes crashing down five minutes later when some other little thing comes along to rain on my parade. The enemy will do everything he can to steal our joy. Thank God though that through Christ, we have power over the enemy: our ✩superpower✩ is that we can transform our hearts by renewing our minds!
Do not allow this world to mold you in its own image. Instead, be transformed from the inside out by renewing your mind. As a result, you will be able to discern what God wills and whatever God finds good, pleasing, and complete. Romans 12:2 (VOICE)
Now listen. I understand that Romans 12:2 is not about just being thankful for your perfect cup of coffee or shouting out "hallelujah" for the new scented candle you found on sale today. I understand that it is not about simply enjoying life's small pleasures. I also believe though that we can apply the "sweet moments" concept through Romans 12:2, always keeping the bigger picture in mind (while we're transforming our minds by becoming more grateful for the the little things, our hearts are being softened, and are being transformed, themselves).
So after much prayer, I've decided to take it a step further, and am going to host the Sweet Moments series as a weekly blog link-up called Sweet Saturdays. I realize I'm not risking anything, here, so you might ask "how is this "stepping out of the boat", exactly?" And I don't have an answer that will satisfy the cynics, I'm sure, but here is what the answer truly is: I didn't really want to host this link-up because I thought it seemed pretentious, and I was (I still am) afraid that the people that know me outside of this little blog would think I was wasting my time, or pretending to be someone I'm not, and blagh, blagh, blagh. Then I had a conversation with God about it again and He told me to do it anyway. So, here I am!
Here's how it'll work:
I’ve created a separate page on my blog called Sweet Saturdays, which is where the link-up will be hosted (a link-up basically just allows other bloggers to add links to their posts onto the host's site, to be seen by and shared with everyone else who reads/participates). I will be publishing a blog post of my own every Saturday with a re-cap of my week's Sweet Moments, and will include my posts in the link-up (duh).
The Sweet Saturdays link-up is meant to encourage and inspire us to live more grateful lives, to see the beauty in the ordinary, and to embrace the little things in life that bring us joy. Please play along! If you don't want to write a whole post about your Sweet Moments, or if you're not "a blogger", feel free to just share your moments in the comments section of the Sweet Saturdays page. If you'd like to though, I'd encourage you to link up and add your Sweet Moments or Sweet Saturdays blog posts by clicking on the link-up button (on the Sweet Saturdays page). The link-up will be open every Friday – Sunday, and posts can be in image form, in list form, in a vlog, or in any style you’d like — just share with us what made you happy throughout the week. Also, I will be using the hashtags #SweetSaturdays and #SweetMoments on social media, and invite you to do the same, so we can all encourage each other! After all, it really sometimes is just the little things that bring the most joy, and I believe joy can be contagious.
